Certificate of Good Standing

Procedures For a Certificate of Good Standing From the Virginia State Bar

If you are an attorney who is licensed with the Virginia State Bar, you may request a Certificate of Standing from the Membership Department. That request needs to be made in writing to:

Please be sure to include your full name, Virginia State Bar number, a self-addressed stamped envelope, and a check for $15.00 (made payable to the Treasurer of Virginia). Any additional copies, resulting from your initial request, are $2.00 each.

Once your request is received, it will be processed and returned within two to three business days. The certificate will be mailed to your address of record, unless otherwise stated. If there is a need for an expedited certificate, you can send the request via Federal Express with a Federal Express return envelope. Your request will be processed and returned within one business day.

If you need a Certificate stating that your fitness to practice has not been challenged, your written request must state that you authorize the Virginia State Bar to search and release any information (public or private) found in your disciplinary file. This request must be notarized.
