Young Lawyers Conference

A Conference of the Virginia State Bar.

Annual Meeting

The Annual Meeting serves as a gathering of Virginia lawyers and provides many CLE hours, chances to gather and catch up, and a place to conduct official VSB business. A large volume of bar business gets conducted at this meeting, held every June in Virginia Beach. The YLC provides a number of quality events for our membership and alumni to participate.

Annual Meeting Athletics

This committee is responsible for organizing the “Run in the Sun” 5 kilometer foot race and the “Beach Volley Follies” volleyball tournament, all sponsored by the Conference during the Bar’s Annual Meeting in June. Each event brings significant participation and are some of the more widely attended non-CLE programs at the Annual Meeting. Winners of each event receive a trophy. Interested participants may contact the Athletics chair, found in the leadership listings, for more information or to register. 2013 Volleyball Tournament winners

Annual Meeting Programs

This committee plans the special interest program that takes place during the Bar’s Annual Meeting held in Virginia Beach each June. The program typically is on Friday afternoon and is a CLE program of particular interest to young lawyers. For example, in 2012, the YLC hosted the award winning program “Judiciary Squares,” featuring Judges from the Commonwealth and Federal Benches. Read more here.

During gubernatorial election years, this committee typically schedules a debate. For example, in 2013, the YLC hosted the first Attorney General debate between the candidates. Read more here.

Membership Meeting Luncheon

This annual gathering over lunch allows members to catch up and share with old friendships. This luncheon introduces the membership to new officers and Board of Governors. An annual report is given by the outgoing chair and the new young lawyer fellows are inducted into the YLC Fellowship. The Burnette Outstanding Young Lawyer Award is awarded at this luncheon.

An annual tradition, the YLC organizes a reception for the membership and alumni. The reception provides a relaxed atmosphere for members to socialize before the Dinner Dance, the apex of the Annual Meeting. Families are welcome to join the party in the sun. The reception is open to all members of the Virginia State Bar.
