President’s Message
Greetings, and welcome to the website of the Young Lawyers Conference! We’re proud to be the subset of the Virginia State Bar (Virginia’s mandatory bar for attorneys) that consists of and serves “young” lawyers. Our Conference’s more than 10,000 members include all Virginia attorneys who are under 36 years of age or who have been admitted as active, practicing members of their first bar for fewer than three years. While this site is designed by and for our members, we hope that you find it informative regardless of your affiliation with us.
The Conference has the following purposes:
Our foci are serving the public and our members. If you’re a YLC member and are interested in becoming involved in the Conference’s activities, please follow the “Getting Involved” link on the left margin of this page. The best way for you to keep up with our news and events is to subscribe to our electronic mailing list.

All of our programs happen because our members volunteer their time – on top of busy law practices and family lives – to serve the profession and the public. As our Conference has evolved, our public-service programs have expanded to now serve children and families, the elderly, the indigent, community first responders, minorities, and the sick and recuperating. Our member-service programs help attorneys just starting out, those changing jobs or practice areas, and those who aren’t young but appreciate our quality, topical programs.
We share news and events through the email list noted above, this site, and our award-winning newsletter, Docket Call. If you’re a Conference member but aren’t yet involved in our programs, we’d love to learn about your interests and connect you with a YLC program that needs assistance. Nate Olson, a YLC Board Member, oversees member involvement and should be your first point of contact. Please submit our volunteer form or contact Nate by email or by telephone at (703) 934-1480.
We’re excited about the 2012-2013 bar year and the potential that it holds. Thank you, members, for your service and for making our Conference what it is!
Brian Charville,
YLC President 2012-2013
