Immigration Bond and Custody Proceedings CLE

June 12, 2017

Interested in learning more about immigration law and recent changes in enforcement, working with refugees, or need additional CLE credits for the year? Have a desire to provide pro bono representation to clients in need and want to make a difference in the lives of individuals in immigration proceedings? Then, join the Immigrant Outreach Committee of the Young Lawyers Conference of the Virginia State Bar, on June 12, 2017 from 12pm to 5pm for a dynamic Course on:

Immigration Bond and Custody Proceedings: Recent Changes in the Immigration Detention System and How to Effectively Advocate for Bond

The Immigrant Outreach Committee, in conjunction with the Capital Area Immigrants’ Rights (CAIR) Coalition and Immigrants First PLLC, present a timely CLE addressing issues of immigration bond and custody.  Recent changes in immigration enforcement have led to a change in the detained immigrant population, and an increased number of detained immigrants seeking to be released from immigration custody on bond. This CLE will supply you with the legal training you need to effectively represent your non-citizen client in your next immigration bond case. You will learn about the immigration detention system as well has how recent Executive Orders have affected who is being detained and approaches to bond hearings. While there is no requirement that you take a pro bono case if you attend this CLE, you are encouraged to do so and opportunities for pro bono immigration bond cases will be discussed.

Course is pending 4 CLE credits.

Details: Monday, June 12, 2017, 12pm-5pm (registration begins at 11:30AM).
