Deputy Executive Director (Richmond)

The Virginia State Bar seeks an energetic, forward looking individual to assist the executive director with all internal and external operations. Working collaboratively with the executive and senior management team, this position will advise staff and volunteers about state procedures and legal requirements; oversee bar compliance with the Virginia Freedom of Information Act and Conflict of Interests Act; work broadly and strategically on complex policy, legal, and administrative matters; and help identify, drive, and communicate organizational priorities, partnerships, infrastructure, and budgetary needs for achieving bar goals and objectives. In addition, this position will represent the bar to the public and key stakeholders, act as the liaison to the General Assembly, and monitor legislation; develop thought leadership around specific topics/emerging areas of interest; and assist with the preparation and dissemination of communications. The deputy executive director also provides executive oversight to several departments and bar functions: the clerk’s office, communications, information technology, legal access, local and specialty bar relations, lawyer referral, fee dispute resolution, and clients’ protection fund.  

To successfully support the executive director, the selected candidate will have the following qualifications and personal characteristics: 

  • Licensed to practice law and a comprehensive knowledge of the legal system 
  • Extensive experience working in a legal environment and in government relations
  • Record of providing leadership and creative solutions to problems
  • Strong management skills
  • Exceptional research and project management skills
  • Superior verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency with computers and some knowledge of emerging digital technologies
  • Strong strategic, analytical, and planning skills
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work under pressure
  • Demonstrated ability to use common sense and good judgment
  • Results-oriented, detail-oriented, flexible, and resourceful

Director of Information Technology (Richmond)

The Virginia State Bar is recruiting for an information technology professional to direct and develop an efficient, innovative and service-oriented Information Technology program.  As the Director of Information Technology, this position will manage the daily operation of a five-person team; supervise and coach staff; provide technical leadership in the planning, budgeting, and execution of operational requirements and new initiatives; develop and align IT strategy and activities with organizational goals, objectives, and priorities; coordinate the acquisition of new and replacement software and hardware; manage vendor relationships and contracts; and develop the IT disaster recovery plan.

This hands-on managerial role also encompasses the duties of Information Security Officer (ISO) with responsibilities for identifying and implementing comprehensive security measures that ensure the integrity of the information security program, including the policies, procedures and best practices that will meet industry and Commonwealth of Virginia auditing standards. 

The successful candidate will have experience with a wide range of computer systems, networks, hardware, and software; a strong understanding of security best practices; and knowledge of emerging technologies and trends.  IT management experience is a plus.  He/she will be a strong communicator and leader who can work effectively in a team environment; build strong and productive relationships among individuals with diverse interests; think strategically, logically and creatively; manage and adapt to multiple priorities, demands, and timelines; solve problems; and drive results. Bachelor’s degree in computer science, business administration with a focus on MIS, or related field desired.  Selected candidate must obtain and maintain commonwealth ISO certification within six months of employment.

The Office of the City Attorney for the City of Winchester is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Senior Paralegal/Office Administrator.  Candidates interested in this role must have any combination of education and experience equivalent to an Associate Degree from an accredited college or university or Certification as a Paralegal through the National Association of Legal Assistants, the National Federation of Paralegal Associations, or other accredited institution, and considerable experience in progressively responsible paralegal work with two or more years of experience as a paralegal for a municipality or private firm that practices municipal government law.
