The Virginia State Bar, the regulatory agency for the legal profession in Virginia, has an immediate opening for a trial attorney to work as an Assistant Bar Counsel in its downtown Richmond office.  Responsibilities include analyzing complaints of misconduct against Virginia licensed attorneys; preparing reports and presenting recommendations; and trying misconduct cases before district committees, the Disciplinary Board & circuit courts.  Requires Virginia State Bar membership, at least five years of trial experience, and several years Virginia practice experience. Must have excellent interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills. City Attorney, City of Portsmouth

City of Portsmouth, Virginia seeking a City Attorney who has extensive experience in municipal law. City Attorney provides legal advice to the City Council, City Manager, departments and City boards, commissions, and agencies. The duties of the position include: Preparing and reviewing legal documents; representing the City at state and federal appellate courts and administrative proceedings; instituting, prosecuting, defending and settling legal proceedings of the City; advising City Council on legal matters; responding to citizens; trying cases; preparing contracts, ordinances and resolutions; reviewing or preparing pleadings, motions and orders.
