Appellate Division Director (West Virginia)

The Office of the West Virginia Attorney General currently is seeking a director for its Appellate Division.  The Attorney General's Appellate Division represents the State in appeals before the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals and other courts in a variety of matters including, but not limited to, direct criminal appeals.  The director manages the day-to-day operations of the Appellate Division, supervises the line attorneys and support staff in the Division, personally litigates cases in the Division, and reports to the Solicitor General.  Strong writing and oral advocacy skills with at least five years of litigation experience, including appellate practice, are required.  Experience with managing attorneys, a judicial clerkship, and criminal law is preferred.  To apply, please submit a brief cover letter, your resumé, salary requirements, a list of references, writing sample, and any other information you believe would allow our Office to evaluate your application to the following email address:

Litigation Attorney (Richmond)

The disAbility Law Center of Virginia is seeking an attorney with a minimum of five years of litigation experience (or significant experience in civil rights litigation) for the position of staff attorney to advocate on behalf of children and adults with disabilities. Duties will include individual representation of clients in formal and informal legal and administrative proceedings, and occasional supervision of junior attorneys and advocates. Duties may include conducting and supervising investigations of abuse and neglect and systemic disability rights reform efforts. 

The ideal candidate: 

  • Must be licensed and in good standing to practice law in the state of Virginia 
  • Have the ability to handle routine and complex litigation in state and federal courts 
  • Should have some experience in disability law or civil rights 
  • Should have some familiarity with the disability services system in Virginia
