Mission Statement Of The Special Committee On Lawyer Referral
The following Mission Statement was recently adopted by the VLRS Special Committee on Lawyer Referral. (April 2009)
The mission of the Special Committee on Lawyer Referral is to oversee the Virginia Lawyer Referral Service in order to promote the goals of:
Providing individuals from the general public (who might otherwise consult unauthorized practitioners) access to legal services through an immediate referral to qualified, competent, fully-licensed practitioners in their specific area of need
Referring individuals to other appropriate resources able to assist them with their legal or law-related problems
Encouraging the practice of “preventive law” by assisting individuals in solving many potential problems before they become more serious
Generally bringing the public to a better understanding of the law and legal professions
In performing its responsibilities, the committee also establishes policies and procedures which may include membership and consultations fees, marketing strategies, community outreach, budget planning and membership guidelines. The committee’s work may include other specific assignments or requests in its general area of responsibility from the bar’s officers, the Executive Committee, or Council.
At the end of the bar year on June 30, the chair of the committee shall submit an annual report outlining the work and accomplishments of the committee during the preceding bar year. In addition, the chair shall prepare an interim report by February 1 each year for review by the Executive Committee and Council at their winter meeting.
