International Law

Megan Barnhill, Chair

The Virginia State Bar’s International Practice Section has 443 members as of June 2017.  The Section’s Board of Governors for the 2016-2017 term was comprised of eight members.

Over the past fiscal year, the section began the process of obtaining approval from the Virginia State Bar to establish a LinkedIn group page for the Section.  The Section also co-sponsored and publicized events held by other sections that may be of interest to members of the International Practice Section, including the D.C. Bar’s International Law Section, with Geoffrey Goodale serving as liaison; the Business Law Section of the Virginia State Bar, with John Huddle serving as liaison, and the Federal Bar Association’s International Law Section.

In conjunction with VA CLE, the Section sponsored its Annual Seminar on June 21, 2017, in Fairfax, VA.  This year's seminar was titled "What Should International Practitioners Expect from the Trump Administration?" and was cosponsored with the International Section of the DC Bar.  The seminar included panel discussions on the policies and priorities of the Trump administration and perspectives on the effects of the Trump administration policies on U.S. companies and lawyers.  Following the seminar, the Section hosted a networking happy hour for seminar attendees and held a dinner for members of the Board of Governors.

The Board officers for the 2016-17 fiscal year were as follows:

Chair:                 Megan Barnhill
Vice Chair:        Melissa Stear Gorsline
Secretary:        Christina Zanette
Treasurer:        Lindsay Reimschussel

The Board had two new members during the last term, Christina Zanette and Lindsay Reimschussel

The other members of the Board of Governors were:  Geoffrey Goodale, John Huddle, Satnam Singh, and Jeff Talbert
