The Virginia State Bar’s International Practice Section has 437 members as of June 2016.  The Section’s Board of Governors for the 2015-16 term was comprised of seven members.

Over the past fiscal year, the section has produced a dedicated issue of the Virginia Lawyer Magazine (April 2016) (committee chaired by Melissa Gorsline, Geoffrey Goodale, and Megan Barnhill) and the inaugural issue of the International Practice Newsletter (Spring 2016) (committee chaired by John Huddle and Megan Barnhill).  Our members also contributed to the Virginia Lawyer’s February 2016 issue (Geoffrey Goodale).  In addition, we co-sponsored numerous “hot topic” and networking events with the D.C. Bar’s International Law Section, with Geoffrey Goodale serving as liaison.

In conjunction with VA CLE, the Section sponsored a CLE program in Fairfax, VA on June 9, 2016 entitled “U.S. Export Controls and Economic Sanctions – Remarkable Opportunities and Challenges Created by Recent Extraordinary Changes.”  A luncheon was held following the CLE program for Board Members and Presenters (which included the Section’s own Geoffrey Goodale and John Huddle).  The Section, in conjunction with VA CLE, also prepared a CLE program on the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement that was originally scheduled for May 19, 2016, but due to last-minute scheduling conflicts for certain speakers, that session has now been rescheduled for November 16, 2016.  Speakers for the TPP CLE will include the following Section members:  Melissa Gorsline, John Huddle, and Geoffrey Goodale.

The Board officers for the 2015-16 fiscal year were as follows:

Chair:          Melissa Stear Gorsline
Vice Chair: John Huddle
Secretary:   Satnam Singh
Treasurer:   Jeffrey Talbert

The Board had one new member during the last term, Megan Gajewski Barnhill

The other members of the Board of Governors were:  Geoffrey Goodale and Michael Kuhn
