Special Committee on Information Technology
John M. Tran, chair
The Committee on Information Technology continues the work of the Special Committee on Information Technology and the Computer Committee.
The committee is supported by the Virginia State Bar staff, including Executive Director Karen A. Gould, Deputy Executive Director Mary Yancey Spencer, Assistant Executive Director Susan C. Busch, Information Technology Director William H. “Bill” Dickinson and Bar Counsel Edward L. “Ned” Davis.
The committee has overseen the bar’s efforts to refrain from incurring substantial capital costs due to budgetary concerns and has continued to avoid taking on projects that would increase the budget except when necessary to maintain the computer system. The bar has been able to implement online membership renewal and has explored developing an enterprise content management program.
In anticipation of the need to reserve resources and without a need for discussion or review of new initiatives, the committee agreed with the assessment of Mr. Dickinson that any other new programs should wait until 2012.
Leading into 2012, the committee will continue to look for support and input from committee members Sharon D. Nelson of Sensei Enterprises; Jeffrey Willis McLeod, associate commissioner and director of corporate development at Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association, John K. Sheldon of the Virginia Information Technologies Agency, Paul McGlone, a solo practitioner in Fairfax; and Rodney Allen Satterwhite, a partner and senior tech advisor for McGuireWoods LLP in Richmond.
The committee’s first meeting of fiscal 2011–12 will be in October 2011.Updated: Jul 26, 2011
