The Corporate Counsel Section cosponsored a continuing legal education program titled “Managing US and Foreign Distribution Networks: A Multidisciplinary Perspective” with the Antitrust and International Law sections on June 19, 2008.  The panel program addressed such issues as determining proper structure of supply, assessing collateral risks in international transactions, determining the advisability of downstream restrictions, and traps for the unwary in cross-border agreements.

VSB five-year plan

In support of the initiative launched by Virginia State Bar President Manuel A. Capsalis to develop a five-year strategic plan for the VSB, the Corporate Counsel Section Board of Governors prepared a strategic long-range plan, which was finalized and presented to the VSB on April 29, 2009.  The section’s plan focused on its primary goals to facilitate communication and the exchange of information and ideas among Virginia attorneys who work in in-house settings and to represent in-house attorneys' interests with the Virginia State Bar.

Newsletters and member communication

In furtherance of the section’s goal to provide information of interest and benefit to its members, quarterly electronic newsletters were sent by e-mail to all members for whom electronic addresses were available.  The Corporate Counsel Section also maintains an electronic mailing list, which is used to announce section news or events.

Law student seminars

In the spring, the Corporate Counsel Section once again held seminars on corporate counsel practice for law students at the majority of law schools throughout the commonwealth.

Annual corporate counsel section regional luncheons

Regional member luncheons were hosted by the Corporate Counsel Section on May 14, 2009, in the Norfolk, Northern Virginia and Richmond areas.  These luncheons provide an opportunity for the section members to network and share information of interest to corporate counsel.
