Annual CLE – Fall Program
On November 2-3, 2012, the section hosted the 33rd Fall Program at the Boar’s Head Inn. The program offered twelve CLE credits, including two hours of ethics credit. There were 165 attendees for the program. At the meeting, the section collected $1,111 in voluntary contributions for the Red Cross to support victims of superstorm Sandy.
On June 14, 2013, the section co-sponsored a CLE at the Annual Meeting with the Local Government Section titled “Lessons From the Front Lines on Administering and Litigating the Public Construction Contract.”
In March 2013, the section conducted a membership drive breakfast in northern Virginia that featured a free breakfast and 1.0 hour CLE titled “Mediation Ethics.” In addition to the ethics presentation by the Honorable Stanley Klein (retired) and Brett Marston, the breakfast included a networking component during which guests were given an opportunity to learn more about the benefits of section membership. This event was organized by Sean Howley and Alison Mullins.
Also in May 2013, the section hosted a joint reception with the Construction Section of the Maryland State Bar Association in Tysons Corner, Virginia. This event was organized by Jennifer Mahar.
The section continues to update its handbook annually, with Scott Kowalski chairing this work. In addition, the section, through its newsletter chairs Jennifer Mahar and Barrett Lucy, issued two newsletters – one in the fall 2012 and one in the spring 2013. The handbook and newsletters are available on the Section’s website.
In addition to its newsletter, the section was featured in the February 2013 dedicated issue of Virginia Lawyer, publishing an article from the chair and four substantive articles on construction law.

The officers for the 2011-2012 were: Brett Marston (chair), Sean Howley (vice chair), Mike Branca (secretary), Shannon Briglia (treasurer) and Kristan Burch (immediate past chair).
New Members for the 2012-2013
The new board members for 2012-2013 were Dan Fitch, Randy Wintory, Spencer Wiegard, and Mark Crawford.
