The Business Law Section of the Virginia State Bar coordinated with Virginia CLE to hold two seminars during the 2008-09 fiscal year.
The Twenty-sixth Annual Business Law Seminar was titled "Let's Make a Deal – Nuts and Bolts of Handling a Corporate Transaction." The program covered topics such as closing corporate transactions, terms of asset purchase agreements, and terms of loan and security agreements. Program materials included sample form documents.
The Thirty-ninth Annual Advanced Business Law Seminar was held in Charlottesville. Topics included recent developments in securities law, raising business capital in a troubled market, strategic alliances and joint ventures for knowledge based companies, and the obligations of corporate counsel under Rules of Professional Conduct 1.13 relating to required compliance procedures.
Both seminars were well-received. They attracted 316 attendees and viewers.
At the annual business meeting, the following officers were elected: Mark E. Slaughter, chair; Talfourd H. Kemper Jr., vice chair; and Matthew A. Clary III, secretary. James Chapman Hale and Eugene McKinley Lawson Jr. were re-elected to another term on the Section Board of Governors.
In the upcoming year, the section intends to explore developing a newsletter and making more effective use of its website.Updated: Sep 02, 2009
