Programs

At the 2009 Virginia State Bar Annual Meeting, the Antitrust, Franchise, and Trade Regulat Section cosponsored with the International Practice and Corporate Counsel sections a seminar, "Managing Distribution Arrangements at Home and Abroad: A Multidisciplinary Perspective." The seminar was presented by John S. “Jack” Martin, a partner with Hunton & Williams LLP and a section member, and John M. Huddle of The Global Law Group PLC and a member of the International Law Section. The program explored contractual, intellectual property, import/export, and antitrust issues associated with establishing and managing transnational distribution systems.

Annual Meeting

At the annual business meeting on June 19, 2009, the following officers were elected: Wendell L. Taylor, chair; Patricia M. McDermott, vice chair; and Johnny Brent Justus, secretary. Robert William Loftin was elected as a new member of the board of governors, and Mr. Taylor and Ms. McDermott were re-elected to the board for a second term. Special thanks go to former chair Anne Marie Cushmac, who concluded her service on the board, and to Thomas C. Folsom, who concluded his service as an ex officio member of the board.

Future projects

The section board has identified several areas for growth and development of the section, including conducting local social activities and law school writing contests.

I would like to thank each of the members of the board for their work. Separately, on behalf of the entire board, I would like to thank Theresa B. Patrick of the Virginia State Bar staff, without whom we could not have functioned effectively.
