Professor Malawer in Red Square (July 2006)

Professor Stuart S. Malawer visited St. Petersburg and Moscow during the recent G8  summit in Russia.

He then wrote an op-ed piece in The Moscow Times on  Russia's membership bid to the WTO .   (Click for article.)

He argued that it is in the U.S. national interest to finalize trade negotiations with Russia as soon as possible concerning its membership into the World Trade Organization .


Virginia State Bar Annual Meeting, June 16, 2006

Professor Stuart S. Malawer, a former Chairman of the International Practice Section, received an Award of Special Appreciation for his distinguished service as Special Editor of the Virginia Lawyer’s dedicated issues on international practice from 1990– 2005.


 

Virginia Trade Mission to Japan (Oct. 2005): Dr. Stuart Malawer (shown above) attended the biannual SEUS-Japan Trade Forum in Tokyo, Japan, October 2005 as a member of the Virginia trade Delegation.

Professor Stuart Malawer, a board member of the International Practice Section, will be participating in Governor Warner's Trade Mission to India in late April. The trade mission is organized by the Virginia Economic Development Partnership and is focused on developing trade opportunities with India. He previously participated in the Governor's Trade Mission to China last June. Later this spring he will be attending a 10th anniversary program recognizing the founding of the World Trade Organization that is sponsored by the WTO and is being held in Brazil. There he will present a paper assessing the ten year history of the WTO's dispute resolution system. A short version of that paper was recently published in the New York Law Journal in December 2004.
