One of the first sections established in 1955 by the Virginia State Bar,
the Business Law Section strives to maintain a tradition of excellence in
programs and publications for its members. Membership in the Section crosses
many areas of substantial specialty, as well as general practice, including
corporations and other unincorporated entities, business equity and debt
financing, securities, banking, commercial transactions, technology transactions
and general business counseling. Continuing legal education is the linchpin
of the section, which publishes a periodic newsletter, Virginia Business
Law, and each year sponsors both basic and advanced business law seminars
and workshops. Such programs are often coordinated with synergistic VSB
Sections such as Intellectual Property, Corporate Counsel, Tax and Real
Estate. Section leaders have been active through the years in improving
the quality of general and specialized business law and practice for the
benefit of Virginia's small and growing businesses, as well as large private
and publicly-held businesses.
