Lacey photoElizabeth B. Lacey, justice on the Supreme Court of Virginia, Richmond, Virginia, was recently elected for a two-year term (1988-2000) to the Board of Directors of the American Judicature Society, a national organization that promotes excellence in the courts.

Founded in 1913, the AJS is supported by a national membership of judges, lawyers, and other citizens. Through research, educational programs, and publications, AJS's primary areas of concern are ethics in the courts, judicial selection, the jury, court administration, and public understanding of the judicial system.

Justice Lacey is a former judge of the Virginia State Corporation Commission. She is former deputy attorney general of the Judicial Affairs Division for the Virginia Office of the Attorney General. Justice Lacey is an adjunct professor at the University of Richmond T.C. Williams School of Law. She is a member of the American and the Virginia bar associations, the American Bar Foundation, the National Association of Women Judges, the Virginia and Texas state bars, and the Virginia Womens Attorney Association. Justice Lacey is on the advisory board of the American Bar Association's Central and East European Law Initiative. She is on the board of advisors of the William & Mary Journal of Women and the Law. Justice Lacey is also a member of the ABA Section of Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar. She received her B.A. From St. Mary's College, her J.D. From the University of Texas Law School, and her LL.M. from the University of Virginia School of Law.
