Joint VSB/VBA Commission to Study Multidisciplinary Practices

The MDP Commission will study emerging trends in multidisciplinary practice (MDP) to determine whether lawyers working in a MDP can be regulated, and, if so, how such regulation could be implemented. The Commission may also consider amendments to current rules and regulations to address MDPs. The Commission’s primary functions are to study, gather information and educate the public and the bar about MDPs. A report of the Commission’s observations and recommendations will be issued.

*The Council of the Virginia State Bar, at its June 2002 meeting, by an overwhelming majority, voted not to adopt the MDP Commission’s report or its recommendations that would have authorized MDPs in Virginia. If you have any questions in this regard, feel free to contact James M. McCauley, Ethics Counsel at the Virginia State Bar.
