Magazine Assignments

Alan Goldberg’s article, “Health Law and Technology: A Primer and a Warning,” appeared in the February Virginia Lawyer. Sharon Nelson’s article, “The ABCs of SEO (Search Engine Optimization)” will appear in the April magazine, and Fredric Lederer’s contribution to the magazine will be published in the June/July issue.

Web site

Nelson said that a development site for the committee’s home page http://www.senseient.com/techsite/ shows link place holders and is waiting for content.
Goldberg will suggest links. Coggin mentioned general guidelines related to linking and was asked to send bar disclaimer related to links which is as follows:

The Virginia State Bar provides links to many Web sites that are not controlled, maintained, or regulated by the VSB or any organization affiliated with the VSB, and as such the VSB is not responsible for the content of those Web sites. Use of information obtained from those Web sites is voluntary, and reliance on that information should only be undertaken after an independent review of its accuracy. Reference at those Web sites to any specific commercial product, process, or service by trade name, trademark, or otherwise does not constitute or imply endorsement, recommendation, or favoring by the VSB.
This Web site and its document collection may include hyperlinks to sites on the World Wide Web or Internet that are neither controlled nor sponsored by the Virginia State Bar or the Commonwealth of Virginia. They are included here solely for their value as educational, reference or research tools or because they relate to the mission of this agency and the Commonwealth of Virginia. Inclusion of any hyperlink should not be interpreted as an endorsement by the VSB or the Commonwealth of Virginia of either the site's sponsor or any commercial product.

Internet security

Nelson said that she and John Simek spoke to the National Association of Regulatory Utilities recently about domestic and international hacking of utilities—including the concerns about security of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition systems-- and that she would send the PowerPoint presentation at the meeting to appropriate regulators in the commonwealth.

Survey

Goldberg suggested that a survey of VSB members by electronic instruments (Survey Monkey etc.) and in the magazine could define the mission and goals of the committee and help it serve the needs of the bar.  Nelson said that she would ask the ABA for similar survey questions and work with him to develop a draft survey to be circulated for review by the committee.

CLE at annual meeting

Coggin said that the annual meeting CLE on June 20 will be at 2 p.m. in the Cape Henry Room of the Holiday Inn at Virginia Beach, and that the deadline for the CLE outline to the bar is May 9th.

Blackwell Shelley said that he would develop a document for the committee to use to collaborate on ideas for continuing legal education topics. James McCauley said that the Qualcomm decision should be included in the discussion.

Respectfully submitted,

Rodney A. Coggin
