Logo:
Sharon Nelson reported that the logo Consultus Electronica, The Electronic Lawyer, will accompany the committee’s article by Alan Goldberg that will appear in the February Virginia Lawyer magazine.
Web Page:
She said that she is working on the committee’s Web page. It will have a membership roster, calendar, useful links and articles by the committee. Nelson asked members to share other ideas for the site at the next meeting.
CLE input to bar:
Nelson suggested that the committee may be useful to the bar by identifying items related to technology for continuing legal education offerings (topics, not speakers). She asked committee members to be prepared with their ideas on this agenda item for the next meeting.
Utilities hacked:
Nelson referenced recent news media article that said that hackers shut down power grids in foreign cities, according to the Central Intelligence Agency. She raised the possibility that the committee might have a role in educating state utilities about these possibilities and how to prepare for them. She said that she would speak about the subject before the National Association of Regulatory Utilities at an upcoming meeting. Rod Coggin said that the link to a FOX News story on the hacking incident can be found at
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,324547,00.html. He said that a Virginia.gov page at http://www.ocp.virginia.gov/Governance/SCP.cfm shows the composition of a Secure Commonwealth Panel that may be investigating threats to the state’s technology infrastructure. Nelson said that she might follow-up on the issue by letter with the appropriate state oversight authority.
Legislative Initiatives:
The item related to possible advisory activities by the committee on pending information technology issues was tabled until the next meeting
CLE at Annual Meeting:
Coggin said that he would inform the committee of the time and place of its CLE on June 20 in Virginia Beach by the next meeting.
The next meeting will be February 25 at 4 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Rodney A. Coggin
